RODWLL WILL MISS EURO 2012

Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell is expected to miss the Euro 2012 as a result of the hamstring injury he has been suffering from over the last few months. Jack Rodwell is one of the most promising young players for the England national team. Former England manager Fabio Capello said that he saw Jack Rodwell as a player capable of replacing either Rio Ferdinand or John Terry at the back for England. However, the last few seasons has been a struggle for the Everton midfielder, who has been beset by a number of injury problems. The latest one troubling him is the hamstring, which could force him to miss the Euro 2012 according to new rumours.

The 21-year-old recently completed the first 90 minutes after a long time in the Merseyside derby match against Liverpool recently. Even though Everton lost to the match quite heavily 3-0, with Luis Suarez stealing the show, the presence and the performance of Jack Rodwell has come under praise. However, the hamstring problem once again came to the fore just ahead of the match against Arsenal on Wednesday night. Rodwell was forced to withdraw from the squad just ahead of the match. Everton lost the match 1-0, thus suffering consecutive defeats after a run of nine games without defeat.

“He seems quite strong mentally and he will overcome this. Once he gets into the team and gets a run, he will improve. Jack is at the stage where he needs to be a regular. This has set him back a little bit but I have got every confidence that he is going to be a top player for Everton and England,” Steve Round said ahead of the FA Cup match with Sunderland. The timeframe for the return of Jack Rodwell to the first-team action is not known yet.

WELBECK HAILED BY EX-PROS

Manchester United’s young sensation Danny Welbeck has been hailed as a brilliant player for the club by two of the club’s best-known legends – Andy Cole and Paddy Crerand.

The youngster returned to the club in September after a loan spell at Sunderland. Since his return, he has been most impressive, scoring nine goals in all competitions. These included matches of paramount importance against rivals such as Manchester City and Arsenal.

Cole, a United veteran with over 120 appearances for the club, remarked that Welbeck’s return was especially important to the club, now that Javier Hernandez has been out for some part of the season with a few injuries. Speaking in an interview, Cole said that it would be immensely positive for the youngster’s confidence that he has been on the starting line-up for so many big games.

Speaking about Javier, Cole said that it was probably the most difficult season for the youngster as it was his second for the club. The number of injuries he had sustained hadn’t helped his performance. This was a golden opportunity for Welbeck to shine and prove his mettle and he had done just that, by scoring some magnificent goals against some of the most formidable opposition in the country.

MOYES CONCERNED

Everton manager David Moyes has said that he is extremely concerned about the hamstring problem Jack Rodwell was at the moment. Jack Rodwell has suffered his fourth hamstring injury of the season. He has been out of the first team action since January 4. Hamstring injuries usually take about a month to recover, but Jack Rodwell is yet to return to first-team action. This has seriously concerned Everton manager David Moyes, who has said that the situation with Jack Rodwell is extremely confusing. Despite being allowed extra time to recover from the injury, Jack Rodwell is yet to come anywhere close to full fitness.

This is not the first time Jack Rodwell has not been at 100%. The 20-year-old England midfielder has suffered a number of injury problems in the past. They have been the only limiting factor in preventing him from moving to a big club in very much the same way Wayne Rooney did in 2004. Prior to the injury problems surfacing, it was thought that Jack Rodwell could be worth around £ 30 million for Everton. However, it is highly unlikely that clubs will be prepared to pay such a huge amount of money for a player who is injured often.

“It is a big concern. In truth, we have given this injury longer than we should. He has done lots of extra work, lots of strengthening. He has had a week and half of football training. We were going to play a practice match here and I was going to maybe play him in that. Maybe it’s not too bad. We don’t know yet,” said the Everton manager. Despite the incredible number of injuries suffered to major players, Everton are doing well in the Premier league table. They are currently in the 10th position.

CHELSEA CHASE RODWELL

It seems that Chelsea are moving ever closer towards lowering the age of their squad by bringing in Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell. A number of reports have surfaced stating that Chelsea are closer to any other club to signing Jack Rodwell from Everton.

It is thought that Andre Villas-Boas has made Jack Rodwell as his first priority in the January transfer window. Even if it is not possible in January, then Chelsea are most likely to come back for him in the summer. It is thought that Everton would be willing to sell the player for around £ 20 million given that he has endured a number of injury problems in the last few seasons.

As a result, he has been overshadowed by the likes of Barkley, who made his debut recently. Manchester United were once the favourites to sign the youngster from Everton, but it seems that the London club has moved into the pole position to secure the services of the 20-year-old. Other clubs who are keeping tabs on the situation include the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham. Jack Rodwell is currently out of the first team action due to a hamstring problem, but is expected to return soon.

“His development here has been good. He came on the scene very early but I’ll always think players will be better served being at Everton. I don’t think we’ll be selling because we need the money for the bank or anything like that. But there have been some really big players sold,” Moyes said when asked about his future. Everton have been suffering from a number of financial problems of late and the £ 20 million generated from the sale of Jack Rodwell will prove to be a massive war chest for David Moyes in his efforts to strengthen the team.

OWEN KNOCKED FOR SIX

Manchester United striker Michael Owen has been ruled out for six more weeks, as he strides to establish himself as one of the regular players for Manchester United. A lot has been spoken about Michael Owen just prior to the transfer window, but nothing materialised as Owen ended up staying at Manchester United. However, he has not been able to get a lot of game time. The game time that she has got so far have been mostly in meaningless Carling cup matches and so forth. The latest setback to the former England striker comes as a major disappointment.

He is expected to be out of action until at least Christmas, which is once again a major blow for Sir Alex Ferguson as well. Dimitar Berbatov has not been performing as well as in the past seasons. He would have been hoping that at least Michael Owen steps up to the plate this season. The former England striker suffered the injury setback in the 2-0 win over their Champions League opponents Otelul Galati. He played only 10 min in the match before suffering the injury and had to be taken off. Manchester United especially need the services of Michael Owen at this time.

They are currently trailing leaders Manchester City by five points. Even though Manchester United traditionally perform well in the second half of the season, the presence of Michael Owen could have added a wealth of experience to the current crop of young strikers like Danny Welbeck. Still, the injury has not been as bad as initially feared, as Michael Owen will be able to return to first-team action from January onwards. Manchester United released the following statement: “Michael has a thigh muscle injury and will be out for six weeks or so.”

Rooney Left Out

Wayne Rooney has been left out of the latest England squad, as coach Fabio Capello tries to come to terms with the fact that they will the team will be forced to play without their star striker in all three of ther Euro 2012 Group games.

Rooney was needlessly sent-off against Montenegro when England were 2-1 up in their final qualification match for Poland-Ukraine 2012.  In the referee’s report it said he was sent off for violent conduct – an offence that carries an automatic three match ban.  Whilst the FA have appealed against Rooney missing all 3 matches, citing his good behaviour in previous matches, UEFA have upheld the ban.

Because Rooney will be unavailable for the group matches, Capello has had to cast his net wider, to see what other attacking options he could use.  Danny Welbeck has already been tried up-front on his own (against Ghana) but struggled to make an impact, whilst the Aston Villa pair of Agbonlahor and Bent have been lacklustre when the claret-and-blues hav faced top-class opposition. Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge, who has had an encouraging start to the season after a great year on loan at Bolton last year, is likely to be given his chance against Spain on Saturday, and looks the most likely to succeed in winning a first-team spot.

By the looks of it, Capello has written off the hopes of Michael Owen, Emile Heskey, Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe, all of whom have been left out along with Rooney.

England play Spain on Saturday evening at their new Wembley home, in a match that is being televised live on ITV.  They then follow it up with a midweek friendly against Sweden (again at Wembley).  And they will have to do without wayne Rooney for both.
