Marcus Rashford was not left out as he paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo who played a key role as Manchester United sealed their place at the top of the Premier League table with a convincing win at home to Newcastle United.
Ronaldo scored twice either side of the halftime break on his second debut for the Red Devils to ensure that they beat Newcastle United at home. The two goals from the Portuguese international helped Manchester United to a 4-1 win at the expense of the team from the North Eastern part of the country.
England international Marcus Rashford didn’t feature against the Magpies due to injury. He has been sidelines with a shoulder problem since the start of the season. Marcus Rashford opted to go under the knife for surgery rather than start the season with a bad shoulder.
Marcus Rashford took to his official Twitter handle to pay tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo after doing damage to the opposition team in the form of Newcastle United. According to him, it was like Ronaldo never left the club.
Ronaldo is back at the Theatre of Dreams after 12 years playing for clubs such as Real Madrid and Juventus. He spent nine years at Madrid and then an extra three years at Italian giants Juventus before returning to Old Trafford for a second spell. His first Manchester United spell was six years from 2003 to 2009.
Manchester United took the lead against the Magpies on the stroke of the halftime interval thanks to Ronaldo. His debut goal arrived from close range at the end of the first half. Newcastle United levelled proceedings for six minutes through Javier Manquillo in the second half before Ronaldo restored the lead for Manchester United on 62 minutes. Bruno Fernandes and substitute Jesse Lingard then scored to make it a convincing 4-1 win for the home team.
