Jack Rodwell’s spell in Manchester City has seen him struggling since he made his move to the club in August of 2012. Being able to make less than 20 appearances for City, it’s a completely different time for the player that made his way into the reserve team of Everton at the age of 15 and later broke the record for being the youngest player to represent Everton in Europe as he was only 16 years old.
The defensive midfielder has failed to secure a place in the starting lineup of Manuel Pellegrini as well as being plagued with injuries that have further left him out of action in Manchester City.
Roberto Martinez is interested in bringing back Rodwell to Everton and he even attempted on signing the midfielder during the January transfer window but failed on doing so but will once more attempt on signing him in the summer.
Everton has recently suffered defeats against Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool which has seen the team of Roberto Martinez being knocked out of the FA Cup and falling into lower spots in the Premier League but despite all of those recent negative results, Martinez believes that the squad has been improving.
“I think at the beginning of the season you get those teams who are expected to win titles because of the financial approach,” he said. “We are in a position where, because of our football club and our history, we should be expecting to win titles. It is going to be a bit of a process but I think you saw we are not far from being able to go to Arsenal and be able to get through to an FA Cup semi-final.
“Now it’s a matter of making sure the small margins get affected in our favour and we can progress without expecting to go into big places like the Emirates and be beaten. The performances are showing that we’re starting to develop that belief so the next stage is to be able to reflect it in the scoreline.” Martinez said.
