The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that the fans should become little bit more realistic with regard to the ambitions and aspirations for the team before considering booing them. The Arsenal fans were extremely critical of the team following the goalless 0-0 draw with Aston Villa during the weekend. Wenger was also targeted heavily by the away fans, as they chanted at the manager by saying that he did not know what he was doing. Wenger made some unique decisions during the match like taking off a striker and putting on a defensive midfielder when the team was chasing a goal.
He also did not bring the midfielder Jack Wilshere from the bench even with the knowledge that he was one of the creative players within the team. Wenger said after the match that he did not have to justify his decisions after the rematch, while also saying that his managerial skills have not changed a lot since the 2004 Premier league title win when the club went undefeated throughout the whole season. Wenger has said that he is the only person answerable to him at the end of the season. Arsenal finished the last season in third position, which is a good achievement according to the manager.
“Last season we finished third. Honestly I don’t think there was much more in that team than third. Like when we won the Premier League with zero defeats, which never anybody else has done, you think there is not much room to do much better. At the end of the season I want to stand in front of my mirror and think: ‘Have I done all I can?’ That’s all,” said Wenger after the match. Arsenal have just two victories in the last five matches in all competitions, which have led to the fans frustration.
